Education & Workforce

Treutlen County is home to one public school system with Elementary, and Middle and High School Campus located within one complex.  The complex also houses the district’s Pre-K program.  The campus is new construction, only opened within the last five years.  Treutlen County Schools is proud to boast a graduation rate increase of well over 10% to reach 82.4% in 2011 (above the state average), with over 39% of its seniors eligible for the Georgia HOPE Grant or Scholarship at the state’s technical colleges or university system schools of higher education.

Post- high school education is easily within reach of Treutlen County residents with several technical colleges, university system programs, and private colleges in driving distance.  Southeastern Technical College is located in Vidalia with Oconee Fall Line in Dublin; four university system campuses are near the county with East Georgia College in Swainsboro, a campus of Middle Georgia State College, Georgia Southern University, and Georgia Southwestern University in Dublin; and private schools, Brewton-Parker College in Mt.Vernon and Troy University with offices in Dublin and Vidalia.

The June 2013 Area Labor Profile shows that 82% of the employees in Treutlen County, reside in the county and of the residents, just over 40% commute to neighboring communities to work.  Almost 20% each travel to the micropolitan areas of Toombs and Laurens counties.

Over 40% of the population holds only a high school diploma while nearly 35% holds some college up to professional level training.  A steady increase in education level attained by the younger population shows the school’s persistence in training while focusing on student-centered curriculum.
